The area's peculiar orography, with Mt. Fito to the south, is a contrast of mountains and vast meadows ending in subtle cliffs at the coast, beneath which lie huge virgin beaches of fine sand.
El Babú is situated in one of the region's most beautiful spots: at the foot of the Sueve mountain range and just 500 meters from the Cantabrian Sea. In fact, the hotel is named after one of the highest peaks of the Sueve mountains, El Babú, which can be seen from the hotel. The area is classified as a protected landscape of the Sueve mountains.
650 meters from the hotel you'll find Espasa and Viso beaches. Arenal de Morís beach (Caravia), La Isla and La Griega beaches (Colunga), are all within a 6 kilometer radius.
Fifteen kilometers from the hotel is Ribadesella, a pretty fishing and summer resort village where the annual descent of the Sella River is celebrated. You can also see examples of cave art in the Tito Bustillo caves.
Cider is the typical Asturian drink, and Villaviciosa, the capital of the cider region, is 22 km away. Its city hall, full of history, houses valuable collections of Asturian Pre-Romanic (San Salvador de Valdediós) and Romanic (San Juan de Amandi) art.
The coastal part of the Camino de Santiago (St. James pilgrimage route) passes through Caravia between Arenal de Morís and Espasa beaches. The first kilometers of the Morís-La Llera stretch are especially breathtaking.
